Hello:

I am new to model boating and am having some trouble with my boat lighting. I have (4) 3 volt lights powered by two 1.5volt AAA batteries. In short order the batteries get extremely hot. in addtion two of my lights are rather dim and the other two are very bright. (again, I am new at this ):(

Is there too much draw on the batteries - I mean it's only 4 lights - is this why the batteries get hot? And is the reason why the two of the lights are far more dim than the other lights is due to a power drop?

As a solution should I only use two batteries per 2-1.5 volt batteries??

I would appreciate anyone's help here.

Thank you.

check your wiring, sounds like a short

Hi there . The bright bulbs sound like they are wired in parallel and the dull bulb are wired in series.
The reason the battery's get hot could be a short like Ghost said or if the bulb are high power it may be to much for the little AAA battery's. It would help to know what size(current draw ) the bulbs have.

4 bulbs should not get AAA batteries hot.

if you have a metal mast, one reason for the hot batteries could be chafed wires, and so shorting out the system. I had this happen once!

best way to wire lights
