So I've been on the fence for awhile,, have been reading, reading,, looking and doing more reading,,,, just can't seem to get off the fence,,,, but think I'm close,,,, so here it is and a few thoughts on each,,,,,
** Reminder,, I have a lipo charger etc,, as I fly planes,,,,,
** I want something my 11 year old boy can enjoy,,,
** It will be for bashing only,,,,,,
** I don't want to be fixing it all the time,,,,,

** Rustler VXL,,, PRO's,, many places have parts,,, runs good on lipo's 2cells,,, ,,, CON's transmission is loud,, not the easiest to drive,,,,

** HPI Firestorm Flux,,,, PRO's HPI has good quality stuff, from what I've read it handles well,,, CON's,, parts can be a challenge to find,,,

** Losi, 8eight E- PRO's seems to be high quality,,, 4wd,,, handles well,,,,,
CONS's,,, not sure how easy it is to fix,,, not sure of parts avalibily,, needs a 14.8 battery,,,,, Not sure if it is a good bashing truck,,,,,

** And the last one falls alittle out of the group,,,,,, HPI Baja 5B,, ver 1,,,, PRO's pricing has come down to under $800 as the new ver 2 is out,,,, from what I hear they are built like a tank,,,, 2 stroke gets about 30-45 min run time,,,,, CON's,,,,, parts will be more expensive,,,, engine bould need tweaking,,, can't just run around the house and street, neighbors will have a fit and call the police,,,,,,,,,,,,

*** Last but not least,,, I could include the Savage Flux,,,, just not sure I want to deal with two lipo's each time I drive the thing,,, it does carry a big price tag,, and you still need I would think 4 batteries,,, to get a couple runs out of it,,,,,,,,,

**** so there you have it,,,,,,,,,,, your thoughts would be great,,,,,,,,

thanks

the baja 5b is a toy not for a kid. why, thebaja 5b breaks very easy. the losi 8ight-e is very expensive. so i would get the traxxas rustler vxl. why, because there is a tranning mode that limits the throttle to 50%. that would be my choice.

I found out availability of parts is a big issue. Nothing worse than having to wait two weeks for a part to arrive from Hong Kong. Not that this is a endorsement of the Traxxas/PepBoys deal, but I was happy when I was able to buy a bulkhead on a Sunday afternoon at PB when my LHS were all closed.

1. I drive a loud nitro in my neighborhood all the time and have had no complaints yet, i just don't drive it before 9am.
2. since there is one gas rc up there i would also reccomend the savage X 4.6. i can get 30 minute run times if i'm not driving it very fast. plus the savage is my first nitro rc.
edit: if i had to choose one of those i'd choose the savage flux first, then the baja 5b. the closest local hoby shop to me has a lot of the 1/5 scale and nitros, and they carry hpi.

I would go with the Rustler

I do not think you have a loser in the bunch but would be inclined to agree that the 5b and its price doesn't go with 11 year old bashing. For all around simple I'd go with the rustler, 2nd would be the firestorm flux. for tough bashing without considering price I'd think either the savage flux first or eight second

^^ i would agree. if price is not a issue i would go with the savage flux. It is built very good and is very durable. only down side is it will be quite a bit for a 11 year old to handle. If your tryen to keep price down go with the rustler. training mod is a excellent feature for teaching kids how to drive.
