So I am in the process of building my first UAV and I have a ADIS1635 accel/gyro. I can read my acceleration on x,y,z axis and roll rates on x,y,z. After doing some research I have found that typical gyros are either rate or heading hold. I am trying to find out what calculations I will need to do to make it a rate or heading hold systems. And anyother calculations I will have to do to stabalize the airplane. Thanks for your help :)

research fixed gain extended kalman filter. Probably more complicated than you expected but a fun problem to tackle.

This isn't 100% accurate and somewhat over simplified but its a great explination for sure

I have the same Gyro and plan to use it sometime in the next year. Id love to hear more about how this goes.

It outputs a signal directly related to rotation essentially a rate gyro.

If you integrate the signal overtime and you can begin to make a heading hold gyro and with this gyro's internal noise filtering and calibration this may be all you need to do.

p.s if anyone wants to purchase an ADIS1635 I am seriously considering selling it to get some money for school.

Thanks for the advice! I will have to do some more research on the heading hold gyros. How much are you looking at selling your ADIS16355 for? I was able to get mine free and I am thinking about getting another in the future.
