Just got in a large ME-109K. 84 inch wing and 73 inch fuselage. Should weigh about 19 pounds. The previous owner had set it up for an E-Flite 160 so I can't say it's an E conversion. However, I am running a Turnigy 6374 200KV instead which I had to change the mounting setup on. Instead of going off the front of the bulkhead, I had to come off the rear of the bulkhead to get the spinner correct. The washer is a shim to get the spinner parallel to the fuselage. The pics don't depict the final installation. Had to add some more thru bolts to hold everything in place. Going to use the Turnigy 100 amp high voltage SC. This motor is only rated for 8S but upon reading the reviews on Hobby City, a number of users have run theirs on 10S. If 8S doesn't do it for me, I feel I can safely run it on 9S or 10S. Prolly use a 20x10 prop though may require some testing to get the proper fit. This is a nice model prototype by builder and designer Ty Brown (http://tysplanes.com/home) and is similar to the Meister Scale ME-109 except he has improved some things such as setting the incidence of the tail plane the same as the wing to make it fly tail high like the original. He did a really nice job on the model. Looks like the weather is the limiting factor right now as it is cold and somewhat wet outside. Maybe in a week or two will take it out.

Is this one of Ty's planes? It's a beaut!
Edit: Guess I should pay a little more attention when I read. Saw this one (or perhaps its sister, as I know he made a couple) fly at SEFF last year. Very commanding presence in the air!

Flew the ME-109 twice today. Great day to fly. First flight used a 22x10 which flew great. Next was a 20x10 which was not enough prop. Ed Couch flew first for trim and I flew the next. He had the most fun withthe 22x10 prop.
Turnigy 1.60 size motor on 12S (2 6S Zippy 5000mah) and Turnigy 100 amp SC. Will fly with the 22x10 from no on. Could use a bigger motor perhaps. Anyway Ty's plane and design flew nicely. Couldn't get a tight shot inflight. One of our local guys, Ronnie Pope does a great job on camera but he wasn't out at the field today. Shucks.

wow, I've never seen this 109. I'm building the 73" CMPro 109G right now, but have been flying the exact same setup in my 83" GeeBee Y of the same weight, and I agree that 12S 5000 mah packs on 20x10 and 22x10 is a great way to go for that motor.
I can't wait to see some video!

Wilit Run,
where have you heard about the bigger turnigy? Are they finally making the 80 mm motors as the Turnigy XP series? That's what I've been waiting for on my 25% Pitts M12 that's been sitting in the box for many long months. I want that 80-85 250kv motor for a blazing fast Pitts on 12 cells. Some guys have said the 80 mm HXT purple motors have already been converted to the gold Turnigy motors, though they're not updated on their web site. I'd prefer the silver XP with the better magnets.
If you have a link or something, please post!
That 63-74 doesn't get hot on my Gee Bee even at 12S, though I'm only using a 20x10 prop right now. You could probably push it more. I guess it depends on how much speed and thrust you need. It could probably push something in the 100" WS size, but it's really all dependent on the weight of the plane. I'd guess it could drive up to a 20 lb plane without a problem on a 22x10 or 22x12 prop. You'd just need packs that can really handle 20C+ power output continuously and I'd consider getting an ESC like the newer 120 Amp K Series Turnigy Sentilon that can burst to 150 amps, or the Castle Creations 110HV. 30C+ packs though are a must. I've been using the newer Flightmax 30C packs and they work great, but are never in stock. I'd consider the new XPS 30C packs as well, those aren't that much more and I've seen those in use at 30C continuous for an entire flight, and they really are amazing. Also very difficult to get though, they're always out of stock.

Wilit Run,
Yeah, okay. They've been selling the 80mm series (80x85 and 80x100mm) for some time in the gold Turnigy brand. I don't know why they don't just update their stupid web site. The HXT motors sucked, I had several large ones that had the magnet bell just spin off & freeze against the housing, and blow the motor and ESC.
Anyway, my Gee Bee is 84.5" wide and about 16 lbs. When I have my speakers in it (for the audio system with the radial engine sound) it's more like 18lbs, and it still flies great. So a light 100" plane wouldn't be out of the question.

I've been meaning to get a video setup, but not yet done it. Go to the link up at the top to ty's site and he has some videos of the plane. It's the very same one as I bought it and he crated and shipped it here.
This is about the edge of the size model that motor would be good on. I think it will be fine on the 22x10 but a larger motor would be great! that small 80 series I have in my 1/5 Jenny would fit with a little bit of rear spacing to get it in. But for right now, I think I'll keep the same motor and just run some bigger props. Ty says he uses an APC Electric 20x10 just fine as it's MUCH more efficient than Zingers. He should know since he's flown them more than I.

While we're waiting for LBJ to post a video of the 109, I thought I'd put up a video a friend just shot of my 84.5" Gee Bee Y flying with the 63-74 motor on 12S 5000mah packs. Just imagine that it's a 109 the exact same size and you'll get a sense for how it'll look.
Enjoy

about turnigy making a bigger motor; well they have and its not a rebuilt HXT

Its huge and one of the biggest motors i have ever seen

That's the same basic motor with improvements they have had for a while. They added some screws to secure the magnets and replaced the rear bearing with a 70mm unit. Now that's a big bearing! These are powerful motors with 10S-12S. Swings a 22x10 easy.

I'm sure they will ship to UK as easy as US. I warn you it's not cheap shipping. But you still save lots. I notice the difference in the non-member price ($149) and member price ($129) for the 80-100-180 motor is good too. It pays to order regularly and become a platinum member. LiPo batts have come down in price too. A 6S 4900 Rhino WAS $111 and NOW is $89, shipping prices extra.
