so im thinking about the power panel from harbor models. this a good one? im thinking this due to tha fact i can power all my lights and some other things with it. its compact and im starting to lack room in the wyeforce. so what are the pros and cons of this unit.....http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/main_pages/power_distribution_panel.htm

You can assemble this circuit yourself, Just be sure to heat sink it.

What Umi said...

Its size is 2" x 3" x 5" including mounting flanges.... I have yet to be able to find a hull big enough for the unit i have...

Here's one mounted in avidjeepr's Hartman Douglas Greg. AJ is very happy with his decision to go with the Harbor PDP. It works great. Simple and straight forward. What else could you ask for?

i have a large hull and i think i found a spot for it that could work well. as i need some rear balast anyhow.

Just wondering if you could take the guts out of the box and it would take up less room? Of course you would be leaving yourself open to shorting it out with water and greater chance of corrosion, but if space is a problem, this might work.

I think some of the box could be shaved off on the bottom.

I just choose hardware that will run directly off my 12v battery, thus saving the space, weight, and the $100 for what is little more than a fan in a box blowing on some cheap voltage regulators...

BTW, the reason that fan has to blow on those voltage regulators is because they waste so much of your battery power as heat while dropping 12v to, say, 3v for your lights, when it was just as easy to find 12v lamps in the first place...

It is a very light unit. You'll still need more ballast.

And the Lamps you have came with
resistors that allow you to run the LED on 12v.

If you want a nice easy clean installation of your electronics I think it is the way to go.

well im thinking against since im only going to have lights and working radar. i decided against smoke and thats why i would want the power panel to simplify installation and asthetics inside the hull. most everything i going to add to the tug will be contained in the superstructure with 2 power leads going to the battery now. but thanks for all the replies. doug.
