I was thinking of purchasing the 4900 mah 20c 5s lipos from rhino( hobby king.com) This is to be used in a 70mm edf setup with 90 amp esc and js1400 motor.
Does anyone have experience with rhino lipos and would the amps and c rating be sufficient on these type of lipos for this setup? thanks for the input

My bud got one for his 46 size pawnee.. It is KEWL.. Batt is tough and powerful.. He also got some little ones.. let me borrow them and I told him he would have to order some more. FOR HIM!! LOL...
they are surprisingly strong and light!!
I know nothing about the motor..

I've used several Rhino packs and they are great for the money! In AUS 2.5 packs for the price of 1 of the popular brands. If you run them in and don't over discharge them they hold up like the others. I've run 2150mah 4s packs for 40 odd cycles and they still pack a punch. After all, they all have a life span and my Rhinos have lived as long as my, twice or "thrice" the price Evos and Hyperions. Oh, and it doesn't hurt as much when you stick em in the dirt at 200 klicks :D
Just my opinion

Not sure how many amps your JS1400 will be drawing but I'd guess right at 100, these lipos are really rated for 98 amps max (though burst will be higher) so if you take it easy on them you should be okay. If you're WOT all the time with your jet then these lipos will be getting pretty abused...
Zippy's, Rhinos and their new FlightPower lineup from HobbyCity rock. I've been using various sizes and versions for some time and as long as you match your setup to the output ratings of the lipos, break them in and treat them as you should you're all set. I would recommend staying away from the Economy line though, they do 'work' but the truth about their ratings and capacity is stretched a bit. I have two Zippy 3600-Ec's that probably store more like 32-3300 mah and though they're rated for 20c they don't have the bunch I'd expect when I'm running a 48-52 amp drawing EDF setup. If I run another set of lipos they give more power and less voltage sag so something to keep in mind.
Overall they rock and are a great deal, IMHO just stay away from their super cheapies and you'll be all set.
Happy Flying!

The Rhino 25C and above gets my vote for their best packs. In my EDF jets, I've tested their Zippy 20C(silver color), Rhino 20,25,30C, and Flightmax 20C packs using and Eagletree logger. The Rhino 25 and 30C hold voltage better than any of the others. The Rhino 20C is on the same level as the Flightmax 20C. And the Zippy silver are just average and get tired after 20 cycles when pushed.

I've been flying these same packs in my 2 meter pattern plane, which is a demanding enviornment. Very good performance out of them so far. In fact, they are out performing some brand names that are much more expensive.

I have some Rhino packs and while they work well for the price, it sounds like you plan on pulling some amps thru your rig :)
I strongly suggest you look into XPS batteries, great performance, great price.

Hope that helps!

PS: Im running a turnigy plush 80a on a JS1400 in a wemotec housing on an XPS 4s 3200, and we're getting just under 1000 watts burst.

Xps are by far the best lipos out for the $$ You dont need to order from china and pay huge shipping costs and they put out higher than 30c labels say they do!! I believe Jim Drew said they are labeled at 30c, but are really 35c packs.

If ya dont believe us than take the "pepsi" challenge!!! Put the rhino's on a meter next to the xps of same size, capacity, and c rating.

Mokena?! I gotta sister named Mokena!
(I love saying that)
:p
Those packs rateings and prices do look good.
I started out with PolyQuest and TP.
No more.
The Rhino and FlightMax are doing great at 1/3 the cost. But they weigh more. Especially the Rhino 4S2350 packs. They weigh noticably more than a good 4S2200 pack. But that extra 10% capacity is what makes it work for my 50amp application. Now, I'm tempted to get a batt with 10% more C rateing capacity than mAh capacity to make the 50amp mark...and save that 10%+ weight.
Ya know, when you "only" but 4 batts from UH...you should consider the price per pack +$9 because of the lowest $35 ship rate....
Now, I bought eight packs, but really, each did cost $4.50 more than I paid as I had to pay the $35 shipping.
Saving this link...
Not like I wont be buying more LiPos. These eight packs (four 3S2200 and four 4S2350) have 104 cycles on them so far. Ben about 6 weeks. Ainnt even summer, in Mokena, yet.

Lavo, do you have any graphs of the XPS packs? I read the thread about them in the battery section. Not very useful. All I got was, and I'm paraphrasing, "They're great, buy them or not, we don't care". Thanks.

No! But everyone who has bought one loves them and buys more!!!! I bought 8 5,000mah in various sizes for my bigger jets and my High powered 70mm setups. These packs are light also!!!! They (xps) are gonna be getting more various sizes in the near future also!!!

I don't have any graphs, but I can tell you I saw a 100w+ increase over other "leading manufacturers" packs by simply plugging in the xps pack (this was on my js1400, in a wemotec housing).

hey gp125racer....i looked at the xps packs....cheapest high performance lipo out there, but all the sizes i need are out of stock!! Anyways i have a 5s 4500mah 30c lipo coming my way( enerland) and i just ordered 2 4 s 4000mah 25-35c ( zippy-h) for only 80$! I went with the 4s lipos instead of 5 s from the zippies to be easier on the setup and testt things out..
since you have the same motor and fan....what kind of esc are you using and lipos??
what estimated amps are you drawing on your setup???
thanks
