For those (think tug guys) who always need just a little bit more power I found this;

here is the article that goes with it not sure who posted the link to the ugly ships website but it is a scream. Lots of potential for subject of future models on there. Definitely wouldn't be your average YTB, or Bankert(?).

That thing has more motors than some people have teeth . Quite a rack!

Foo: That is not an unknown boat. It has been around the internet for quite a while now. It is a captured drug runners boat. The drug runner installed all those engines hoping to outrun the UK Coast Guard and other drug smuggling interdiction vessels. He didn't make it. :p

What would be the reasoning behind so many motors? Why wouldn’t you go with fewer larger motors to achieve the same thing, the complexity built into that craft must be enormous I mean eight throttles? Even offshore super boats keep to four motors and while maybe not in the North Sea they can run well over 100mph on gas engines and plenty faster with gas turbines.

If the original owner was less than honest, it could have been the case that the smaller individual engines were easier to pick up after they "fell off the back of the truck".
And of course, the back of the boat is too narrow for ten.

maybe the drug runner didn't have enough money to aford the larger motors, so when he started to get a little money off of the drugs, then he added a motor, and so on, but besides that that boat is sweet, I wish I could put that may outrunners on my boat :D :p :eek: :rolleyes:

also, it sounds like he and his girlfriend did out run the coast guards, and that they had to send out a couple of helis to catch him. Plus it sounds like the only reason why they went looking for them is because they could hardly see them on radar

More likely he got reported to HMCG by other boaters (probably a ferry or bulk cargo). This thing would stand out like a sore thumb.
They probably got hunted by the seaking choppers they have, or more likely one of the fixed wing planes. Don't know of any CG ships that are capable of the speed to catch up with that boat.

not necessarily Coast Guard but I do know for a fact that DEA has a few (read at least two that I know personally) that will wrap out to well over a hundred knots.
Like I was saying for those of the 'more power' persuasion it struck me as funny.

Supposedly it was smuggling into the UK. But yeah.. I don't think customs or HMCG has anything fast enough. Well not with the new laws saying rescue/police/CG ships can't go past 50% throttles to anything that isnt life threatening any more.. :rolleyes:

No doubt some lawyer protecting his drug running clients got that one through, "Yes Your Honour, the CG exceeded 50% throttle in the pursuit of my client, the law has been broken, my clients rights have been violated." :eek: :confused:

And hopefully five smiling guardsman saying nope we were right at 50% the whole time perhaps he needs another motor or two to help him with his inadequacy issues.
