Hello, I have a jr 378 radio that i am using with one of futaba's gy401
gyro's with its digital servo counterpart. (forget the number at the
time) How can I set up the radio as to switch between heading hold and
normal gyro modes? I right now have it set to heading hold but if i try
to change modes the heli slowly starts to yaw and does not hold the heli
in position with constant engine rpm. Any suggestions welcome.

You will need to track back through previous postings (about 2 weeks ago).
As far as I remember it is to do with the relationship between the percentage
setting on the channel and the midpoint of 50%.
So, 95% would be high gain hh, and 5% would be high gain normal. 60% would be
low gain hh, 40% low gain normal, etc etc.
I am only working from memory here :-) so excuse me if I have it the wrong way
round. It might get you started though.

My first guess is you need to mechanically fine tune your tail push rod in normal mode.
If you haven’t already done this try the following:
In normal mode only lift the heli into a hover and note which way you have to hold the rudder stick to counteract the drift you mentioned.
Then land, walk up to the heli and move the rudder stick the same direction and note which way the rudder bell crank moves. If it goes away from the servo you need to lengthen the push rod, if it moves toward the servo shorten it.
You are trying to adjust the push rod so that the neutral rudder stick position reflects the same tail pitch required to stop the drift while you are hovering.
Keep hovering and adjusting the push rod a turn or 1/2 at a time in normal mode only until you get as close to no drift as possible. If the drift gets worse you are turning the ball link the wrong way. When you get the drift out in normal you will have your tail correctly setup mechanically and both modes should work perfectly.
* Note: If you fly in heading hold without first mechanically setting up your 401 in normal you could cause the gyro/servo to work harder to hold the tail and this can decrease the life of the servo besides causing the annoying drift in normal mode.

The best upgrade you can make at this stage, is to move the tail servo to
the boom, & use the 5mm carbon pushrod. About £25 from Midland Heli's for
the kit, well worth it.
