I want to model GRP structures in ansys to have FEA results.
O have two questions :
1)does any one have experiences with fea of composites in ansys, whom i can get help from"?
2) can I consider these tri or quad axial layers as orthotropic materials?

I have ANSYS experience in designing UAV structures. Help with composites in ANSYS is just going to be a steep learning curve. Even in a university setting I had to learn it mostly on my own.
First things first, linear layer shell 99 is going to be your element of choice. And you can treat your axial layers as orthotropic materials especially is you are describing uni-glass. I would suggest defining them as such and impose a fiber angle when setting up your layers shell element.
Hope that made sense

thx
yes i know about the element.
do u kno how can i apply the drop off layer?it's in the help but i doesn't say how to use it.
i want my model to have different thickness in some parts. how do i do this?

Hi,
I am only slightly familiar with the drop off layer function of shell 99. All of my work was done by importing a CAD file and I always meshed my parts in a separate program such as NX6. I did varying layers by establishing a line at the drop off and doing two separate meshes one having more layers that the other. I assume if you are doing everything within ansys you simply need a set of key points to make a line and then use the line to define the drop off.
