Hi guys...

Well, finally did it. I managed to kill one of my 5 Barra 180 ESC's. To be fair, it was in a powered-up submerged boat that had a lipo fail after about 2 hours underwater! So there was an evil mix of volts+water+lipo innards swishing about...

Sent it to a knowledgable friend (Dr Wayne) who tracked the faults down to 2 areas.

1. Fried phase on 1 FET board
2. Shorted FET pulse firing ciruit (ie 2 phases fire together)

All mainly due to corrosion/tracking. But the fried FET board happened after re-power (ESC was completely dry - tried it a number of weeks later).

So, short question... are the FET boards used on the Barracuda 180 compatible with the Phoenix 180? And if they are, does this mean the unit can be repaired?

thanks

Why don't we just "total" that one and see you take advantage of our flat rate replacement program.

See details here: http://www.castlecreations.com/support.html

Lee...

As far as I am aware, you don't make the Barra 180 anymore? So it's a bit hard to do a replacement?
Also, that link you provided only shows repair costs, not replacement?

If need be, I will keep this one as spares for the others, but it would be nice to know if I can buy FET boards seperately that suit this controller.

so... no response yet???

I was only asking if the Phoenix 180 FET boards were compatible (and if they would be replaced if I sent it back for repair)???

BulletMaster...we don't make the Barr 180 anymore...but we do make the Hydra 240 and will swap you out for the flat rate repair fee on it. ;) $150, and that includes shipping back to you. We can't comment on non-warranty repair type questions such as yours...liability. Sorry. :( Easier to send it in and get a better ESC with water cooling for a pretty good price. ;)

Joe,

I do have a problem with this. I went to the 180 Barra because I don't particularly like having water-cooling on the ESC (and it fits into a smaller space). I also don't wish to go to the Hydra 240 because it would then be non-standard to the rest of my setups (4 other Barra 180's).

I agree that is a fair policy with the swap out, but would really prefer to know if the 180 can be fixed? Happy to receive a PM on this and keep it confidential if you like?
