I was just looking through the AAA Travel magazine and they had a short profile on Palmer Johnson in Sturgeon Bay. In the article was a mention of the annual shipyard tour held each spring to kick off the Door County Festival of Blossoms. Palmer Johnson, Bay Shipbuilding, and Great Lakes Yacht Services open their doors to the public for one day, May 2nd. Proceeds from ticket sales go to local charities. I went to one several years ago. Peterson Builders was still in business then. It was really interesting. My main memory of the tour was a lake boat in the drydock having it's bow repaired. It seems she was heading up the lake when a lighthouse got in her way and refused to step aside.
Too many cool maritime related events going on.
June 13 & 14 Door County Lighthouse Walk. Tours of 5 mainland lighthouses and boat tours to outlying island lights.
June 26th is Engineers Day at the Soo Locks. Public tours of the facilities and you get to cross the lock gates to tour the Davis and Administration buildings.
With club events thrown in the summer could be pretty well booked.
