I want a tiny boat to drive around in my pool during the summer but can't decide which boat to buy. I will either get the mini rio or the mini-z formula boat. I will not leave them stock because they are both too slow. I will convert which ever one I get to brushless. So do I get a mini rio, mini-z formula, or does anyone know of any other really small boats?

You must have a large pool; the Mini Rio scoots around at a good clip. Our club races them for fun and youngster appeal and we get three or more race heats out of one battery charge. Going brushless is, of course, tempting but we leave them stock to ensure equality of boat performance with winners more skilled (and lucky) than losers.

The Mini Rio has a nice rubber bumper around its perimeter but other Mini Rios can (and have) pierced another's hull at speed. As a brushless, you're in imminent danger of creating an ABS shower upon collision with almost anything.

Good luck with it, though.

You will hate a Mini Rio in a swimming pool. It is designed for open water.

For a swimming pool you need a Reef Racer or Zig Zag. These are designed for pools and are very quick and agile in a swimming pool environment.

I have a small pool, so the mini-z boat would be better? I don't think I would get the zig zag or the reef racer because compared to the other boats I have they are nothing and I want something with a nicer look to it like the mini rio. If converting the mini-z formula boat to brushless is better, does anyone have any suggestions?

Or you could try something very different:

This model operates nicely in most reasonably sized pools, and will work in larger bodies of water too.

I had a submarine once and they aren't as fun as a boat.
