ACW812 Pilot-1 PA-12 1/8 Scale ARF

A great flying Piper that isn't a J-3
53-1/4" wingspan, 39-1/2" long, 360 sq. in. wing area, 34 oz. flying weight. The baby brother to our 1/4 scale PA-12, one half the size but retains the fun and great scale looks. All laser cut balsa and plywood construction, pre-built and pre-decorated, can be assembled and ready-to-fly in a matter of hours. Covered in genuine Oracover for great looks now and in the future. Step-by-step photo illustrated instructions will guide even the relative novice through the build process to a successful conclusion. While not suitable for the complete novice, the little PA-12 is a very easy to fly airplane. It does not exhibit any bad tendencies and is totally predictable in flight performance. Flight times of 15 minutes plus are the norm. While not an aerobatic airplane, the PA-12 is capable of loops and rolls and inverted flight (not something you would try in a full scale one). Includes pre-bent and assembled landing gear, fiberglass cowl, steerable tail wheel, windshield and side glass, wing struts, wheels and hardware pack. For 4-channels: Ailerons (2 channels), Elevator, Rudder and Throttle. A radio with end point, exponential, and rudder mixing is recommended.

Looks very nice, Jason! :D
Glad you like it! Everyone is very excited about this PA-12. I have flown it several times and I personally feel it is the best flying Pilot-1 yet. The 1/4 scale PA-12 is a close 2nd. Followed by the 1/8 scale WACO :) But those are my favorites. I think all the Pilot-1 series aircraft fly beautifully!

Spare parts are almost always available for ALL of www.hobby-lobby.com products. If they are not listed on the web, call a sales representative directly.

Got any float recommendations?
Not sure about that one. These might work. Not sure though.

Where is the battery access from?
It's on the bottom of the fuselage between the firewall and the front of the landing gear. It's held in place with strong magnets.

Thanks for all the questions. I will be building one of these for myself. It is a great little flyer! :)

Anyone know of an on-line source to read the Model Airplane News review from the July issue?

This is a great little plane that flies true to the original. It is very close scale, even the weight is very close to scale. After test flights I shimmed my motor slightly down, & right (two thin washers upper left, one washer upper right one washer lower left) in addition to the built in angles. She climbs a little straighter, & less nose up. This is a very relaxing gentle plane to fly. With the long, lightly loaded wing it likes very calm skies.

I'm installing flaps on my 1/8 PA 12. I crashed my 1st PA12, so I have the ailerons, & servo covers, all issues are worked out, I will post photos of construction when completed.

I just completed the flap mod. It took longer than I figured, but it came out nice. I will test it Sat.

PA 12 Flap update: It is going to take some flap elevator mixing to make the flaps manageable, she wants to pitch up considerably with even 20 degree deflection. Even though I kept the mod a light as possible, she flies a little heavier. I think after a little tuning with the mix she should land pretty short. I will probably increase power with a larger motor.

I have the flap-elevator mix close now. She lands nice & slow, & 15 degree flaps allow very short take off runs. :)
