I couldn't find a build thread anywhere on RCGroups or RCU on this particular airplane.
I got my airplane from a friend who got it from his friend. It is partially built with the fuse, tail feathers and part of one wing already framed out.
I am waiting til next month to finish framing it. Why? I need to purchase a door core of appropriate size and the sheeting that allows pins to be used in it. Will have to build the building board first. :)
I am looking for help in this build, as I've never tackled anything this size before.
I thought I was going to electrify it, until I discovered that the total cost would have been over $1000 for all the electronics and batteries. So I am gasifying it with an RCS SV26 engine and a 16x8 prop.
I've already purchased five metal geared digital servos with about 150 ounces of torque. That should be plenty for this airplane.
I will power the receiver/servos with a 4-cell 1200mAh NiCAD pack and the electronic ignition will have a 5-cell 2000mAh NiMH pack
I plan on using two of these switches http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/FRSWITCHSLIDE.html
one for the reciever and one for the engine. Not sure where to hide the switches.
I am just learning about gas engines, but have discovered that they sip fuel as compared to glow engines. So the gas tank will be a Dubro 16 ouncer with converted with appropriate plug and tubing to handle gas. Here I would ask anyone familiar with fuel tubing to provide me some types of tubing. So far I've only found something called Tygon from Tower Hobbies. I understand that Tygon has a tendency to swell and eventually become brittle with age.
As for a reciever, I really am not sure what is best, the small ones I've used in the past for my small electrics or going out and purchasing a more robust receiver. I am presently using a Hitec Eclipse 7 transmitter, so I will have to get a 7 or 8 channel receiver to match.
As I understand, you can program the transmitter to use the retract knob to act as an engine kill switch, keeping you from accidentally bumping a toggle switch and knocking your airplane out of the air.
I am also looking at fuel dots. What I would love is to place a fuel dot on the cowling where the full scale Cub has its fueling port.
As I am preparing to finish the build, I need to obtain some more parts. One is the push rods for the elevator and rudder. What would you suggest, Nyrods, or the traditional heavy duty piano wire type? I will be using the Nyrod on the throttle to help eliminate interference problems that arise with the use of metal pushrods. I've found this out from others I've talked to on the forum.
I also will need some suggestions on covering. Presently, I have a full 25 foot roll of Cub Yellow Monokote. I hear that it is adequate, though the word adequate worries me a little.
I was fortunate that the gentleman who gave the kit to my friend, also gave him the scale wheel set for it, though it doesn't have the hub caps that you see like with the Hanger 9 Cub. Anyone know where I can obtain just the hub caps?
I will post a picture here of the fuse. This was taken before I removed the blocks of wood that the original owner had attached. I guess he was going to carve out things instead of using fiberglass or plastic cowling/fake engine stuff.
Again, I would appreciate your suggestions, as this is my first giant scale attempt. Caley

EDITED: Just in case someone is wondering what is on top of the cabin, it is a little rubber powered free flight airplane called a Pussycat. I placed it there as a contrast in sizing when I posted this pic over on a free flight group.
Sorry Everyone. I goofed and put this in the electric section instead of the gas section. I am closing this here and redoing things over in the gas section.
