I have the Kyosho Jet Stream 800 seen below (not mine, just stock photo)

http://www.th-privat.de/mbau/kyosho-jetstream800s.jpg

It's sitting in my father's garage in Bonita Springs in pieces. I left it there so that my nephews had something to play with in the big pond.

Anyway, I want to get it running, and running fast.

Here's what I have to work with.

- Receiver and tx old but works fine.
- 2 x leMans 540 or something like that brushed motors.
- both liquid cooled.
- Crapy old manual speed control. (I'm talking the ones us need a servo to move)

I want to run 11 volts through them and I want it to really go. I tried this, and the motors got so hot they melted the wires, and the bat. packs caught fire. Good times.

What do I need that inexpensive to get his sucker moving at a good clip?

Cheap $$$ and 'go fast' do not go together.

This boat is the same size as a Kyosho Blue Streak and has the same running gear. It will require serious horsepower to make it go at a 'good clip'.

Thanks for the link. The Kyosho Blue Streak is similar, but the gearbox and internal setup is different.

Hi Dan,

Please check if the keelline of your boat has a rocker in it, like the Blue Streak.
If this is the case, it will porpoise when getting over stock speed.
Kmot already mentioned the remedy, brake tabs (eh trimtabs).

I'd keep the boat as light as possible, I've seen Jet Streams with a 700 motor in direct drive and 12 cells, but they sat very deep in the water, they were quick though ( 25mph+).

The quiet solution would be brushless in direct drive and 3S Lipo's, that would be at least as quick as the 700 motor set-up, but much lighter, so longer runtimes.

Downside is the higher wear on the steering outdrive, which are not designed for a lot of power, it will hold up in a reasonable brushless set-up.

Regards, Jan.

Would this motor do well in my boat?

Most likely not.

Outrunners are hard to watercool.
Bigger 'problem' would be the Voltage needed for 30.000 rpm at the prop
30.000 : 900 = 33,3333V which would mean 9S lipo or 28 NiMH...

what sort of brushless can I use for something like this? I've got motors that are 3400 kv, but the amps are only 20 to 30 max. I'm assuming the prop in the water will pull close to 50 amps or more.
