How well would super glue work for holding a bushing into a stuffing tube? you see I've got an ABS boat that I need to replace a couple of bushings and the stuffing tube is in place (solid shaft) and I'd rather not use use a lot of heat to solder new ones in place...
thanks

If it's nylon/nylatron/acetal etc., or sintered bronze (Oilite),... not so well. I try to put a tiny dimple in the tube to keep them from spinning, though a slight press fit is preferred.

might try a heat sink (like the electronics guys use when soldering on heat sensitive stuff) on the shaft to keep the heat from traveling down it and ruining your hull.

Maybe a flanged bearing would work, no glue required.

I use 7/32 K & S brass for strut ( fixed ) and use flanged nylon about 3/4" long from hardware store and wrap teflon tape just enough to take up space and then pull it out enough to put Gorilla glue on and slide back in. Once in awhile i have to wetdry cable shaft so it fits right. I use my second Dremel on its stand to get it to correct fit. Never have anything wear or come loose and best of all no play. I use teflon grease, not much, which turns black which shows it is doing its job. Andy Kunz uses barber oil called Wahl oil. pat--- how about roughing up the outside of sleeve so to get small burrs and some JB weld on burrs.

Make sure the pieces are clean and try some J B WELD. It will work metal to metal for a brass bushing but not with oilite or nylon. That stuff holds just about anything. Used it on gas strut mount plates on my P.U. cap. Holds very well. Also used it for attaching oiler tubes on a couple of stuffing boxes.

heheh, its an aquacraft hammer ep...taint near as fancy as oilite(nor will I be that fancy) just two bits of brass tube. original shaft is 3mm dia(and bent), new one is 0.1255" dia...hence the need to replace bushings(well that and a few other odd bits :)).
thanks for the info

Depends on your tolerances.
When you siad Superglue, did you mean Loctite Bearing fit?

well I was thinking of 'slow jet' since I have it on hand. However I decided to solder the bushings w/ my 80w iron(I'd had pretty good luck removing the old bushings), so now the boat is set-up to use an 1/8" dia. shaft. Next up, replacing the motor mount :).
