hello all,

I'm looking for a general purpose laptop with about a 13" screen. it will run the paparazzi GCS, with ubuntu. A tablet PC with a touch screen and good graphics card would be a huge plus. it must have at least 2 hours of battery, preferably around 5-8. i have about 700 dollars to spend. also the cheaper it is the more money i have for my planes! :D

thanks

Try the HP 2710p. Every thing works under ubuntu, even wireless. I have paparazzi installed, but haven't flight tested it yet. It doesnt have a dedicated graphics card but will run light CAD without trouble. Battery 3-5 hrs depending on what you are doing. It also has the option of a battery slice which will double the run time. Another bonus is the docking station which can be carried on the machine or left at home.

Probably set you back a little more than $700 though. I got mine off ebay, brand new, and about half price of retail.

I looked at a lot of tablets, and this was by far the best.

i have an eeePC 901.

cheep and very good value.

the eees are available with Linux pre-installed but it is trivial to replace their version with Ubuntu if that is your choice.

the 901 is the best in my opinion as with the Intel Atom CPU and solid state flash drive you get small, shock resistant and good battery life all in one package.
i would thoroughly recommend it.
