View Full Version : Careful! X: too long battery wires will kill ESC over time

All ESC manufacturers say the same, long battery wires is not a good idea, will cost you your brushless controller. Extend motor wires instead. This is caused by wire inductance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_induction), not by wire resistance. Add extra ESC input capacitors if you must extend battery wires.

ESC manufacturer statements, workarounds, rules of thumb, capacitor type, installation manuals:

That thread gets into some pretty deep stuff! man! Right up there with electro-gravitic craft theory.

I guess I lucked out on the Fly Fly Mirage and the long leads from the batts up front to the SC and to the motor at the VERY tail end of that bird. so far it runs as cool as a cucumber. Hope it stays that way. This is the second time today I have run across caps on SC wiring. May be an omen. Hmmmm. I hate that. Hehehhehe

That's why I posted it in this order:
problem -> solution -> rules of thumb -> installation -> explanation/theory
Just skip the expert/explanation/theory part and you'll be fine :)
