I really like that most people in this forum are interesting in creating their own craft from scratch. Although I want to make my own from scratch hovercraft, I don't feel as though I have the time currently to dedicate to a full build.

Has anyone tried modding one of the cheap prebuilt craft for better performance?

I would like to get a simple craft, but modify it for slightly better performance than I *imagine* it will have right out of the box (considering its <$30).

the craft you have looked at will not give the required performance for the work done saw one the other weekend at the local club was not worth the effort a scratch built modle does take a while but does it matter mine take about a year to build so when she hovers for the firt times it makes it all the better how about a griffon 2000 TDX nice model quite simple construction i know someone that is making a scale RNLI hovercaft he been at it four years now
see http://www.model-hovercraft.com/2000tdx/2000tdx.html or one of palaforms craft see http://www.modelhovercraft.co.uk/

Thanks Tim, I imagine you are correct considering I don't see anything about modifying on the board.

I took a closer look at your link and that does look like a good source of plans/data for a from scratch craft. I'll have to pick away at the construction over some time.

If anyone else has modified, I would still be interested in your experience!

I think about it, too. In another forum, someone take the hovercraft apart. I look at picture. My conclusion is only the skirt is worth to take. You still need to rebuild everything else.
