Hi,

I have bought a new kit of a World Models CAP 232 - 120, it has a 73" wingspan. Im wanting to be able to pack it back up in the box, if I ever need to sell or transport it. Unfortunately, the kit is designed such that it is a 1 piece wing.

I have a few ideas on how I can modify the wing to make it two piece, although I am a bit nervous on doing it on a plane of this size and weight (AUW ~12lbs). Has anyone ever done such a mod (on a similar model) and could post some pics of their arrangement?

Im also wanting to make the tailplane removable - I am pretty sure that this will be less of an issue than the wing - im planning to install some hard points and captive nuts inside the fuse and bolt the tailplane on. I am interested to know if others have any experience with this??

Many thanks!

Cheers,

Andy

Subscribed. I'm interested in this too, I just ordered one of these up for e-conversion (who can resist a price of $151 for a plane like this?) and transportation is an issue, I've got a number of planes of this size to try to fit in the station wagon on the way to the field, and things are getting a little cramped to say the least!

Tried to do this on another one piece wing...not difficult if you just like projects for the fun of it. I found that I was better off buying another plane that had 2pc wing.

Here's what I figured:
1.) strip the covering of the wings
2.) attach the wing to the fuse.
3.) mark along the top and bottom of the wing where the fuse & wing meet
4.) cut the center section out of the wing and put the center section aside

chances are you'll have to add another rib to the wing so you'll have to make that.

Now figure cg of the wing ( do this firs)

drill hole fore wing tube receptacle

glue in your tube receiver (be sure to put plywood donut around each rib)

recover.

((Got to do the above twice)

Now you're center section needs an extra rib, wing tube receptacle and to be fixed to the fuse.

a few more holes in the center section so that the wings can bolt on, threaded t-washers added and donuts and maybe an extra stiffening plate along the rib.

way too much work...I just bought a different plane.

There may be a simpler way if someone already has a kit for the conversion.

Two to take a look at: World Models Goover 90 3A & Hp 1/4 J-3.

Manulas for both can be downloaded.
