I am still planning for my Idaho in 1/35th and had another question. I am modifying the hull profile slightly with more beam and only twin screws, also twin rudders just aft of the screws. My question is this; any single rudder craft has a prominent skeg forward of the single rudder to enhance directional stability (keep a consistent heading). Since my own Idaho (spare me the horrid puns about the stupid movie) will basically have a different propulsion layout do I still need the skeg or can I just have the keel aft follow the form of the aft end underside of the hull?

Keep the skeg or it will wander when straight running, bilge keels also help as well as damping roll.

The Skeg's main purpose is to support the stern structure on the building ways and then when the ship is drydocked, can't have the stern drooping.
